Dice is again a King. He won the 2008 Dominica Calypso Association Monarch Competition at the new Windsor Park Stadum Sunday morning February 3.

Nine (9) will meet 2007 Dominica Calypso Association Calypso King De Hunter to battle it out for the 2008 Dominica Calypso Monarch on February 2, 2008 at the new Windsor Park Stadum.

Veteran’s calypsonians De Picky, Soul Puss, Mico, and Yakima, are among some 32 calypsonians for the quarterfinals on January 5, 2008.

The 12 were selected at the eliminations held on Sunday 2nd December 2008 and will join 20 other calypsonians from last year’s quarterfinals.

The other calypsonians are Triumph, Lady Star, D-Xposer, Iration, Elf, Della, Fadilla and Big Jeff. Dominica’s first Calypso Queen the Jahlee (from Grand Bay) did not find favour with the judges also were the Intruder and Natty veteran calypsonians in their own right.

Speaking to the local media after the eliminations, Public Relations Officer for the Dominica Calypso Association, Alex Bruno, is indicating that Dominican calypso lovers will be in for a treat for the 2008 calypso season based on the quality of the performances at eliminations.

Two of the well know faces in the calypso completion Daryl the De Bob and the Oracle will not be singing in the 2008 Dominica Calypso Association calypso competitions. This now leaves the association to bring in two of the calypsonians who were not selected in the laminations.

De Hunter (Dirck St.Rose) is Dominica's newly Crowned Calypso Monarch.

He shoot to the top on the night of the competition denying three-time in a row King Dice from doing it four in a row.

Dice dropped to fourth place a real low spot for a three-time King, Daddy Chess third and Singing Sandy second.

It was a night when many in the crowd never saw Hunter out doing king Dice, Sandy and Daddy Chess.
